Every month, there are informal meetings for everyone interested in ESM research. These meetings are hybrid (i.e., they take place in the UCP and online). The focus of the meetings is on clinical research and implementation of ESM in mental health care. During these interactive meetings, issues related to ESM research are discussed and people can present their own ESM research (also when in progress). If you are interested to join, you can send an e-mail to Marij Zuidersma: m.zuidersma@umcg.nl.
For everyone who is interested in the use of experience sampling methods in research or clinical practice, please pay attention to the upcoming ESM meeting:
Thursday, January 23st 2025, 13-14, UCP building, UMCG Entrance 23, 4th floor, room N414/online via Teams.
Presentation by Marlijn Besten. Topic: Can electronic diary compliance yield information on cognitive control in remitted depressed and never-depressed individuals? Insights from a multi-study analysis.
Major Depressive Disorder is associated with cognitive control deficits that often persist after remission, affecting daily life functioning and increasing relapse risk. Residual symptoms such as negative affect and low motivation may impede cognitive control and thereby hamper goal directed behavior, and as such functioning in daily life. I will present a study examining whether goal-directed behavior, for which we took compliance in responding to daily questionnaires in an experience sampling method study as a proxy, 1) could reflect cognitive control allocation, 2) differs over time in individuals with remitted Major Depressive Disorder compared to never-depressed individuals, and 3) relates to factors associated with cognitive control allocation and depressive vulnerability, including positive and negative affect, rumination, sleep quality, motivation, and lack of interest.
